Shipping Assistant

DEPARTMENT: MAIL SERVICES

 

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for assisting the Shipping Supervisor.

 

AUTHORITY & ACCOUNTABILITY: Delegated by the Shipping Supervisor.

 

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:

Daily

o Receive shipments and unload merchandise.
o Stack merchandise on racks.
o Check in merchandise and affix labels.
o Fulfill customer orders. o Move materials off racks and package for shipment.
o Follow all safety codes. o Place merchandise on pallets or shelves for distribution.
o Sort material according to size, type, style, color, or product code.
o Run receipts through folder/inserter and then postage meter.
o Keep track of items that are low on inventory and report to supervisor.
o Carry out tasks as assigned by the warehouse supervisor/manager.
o Track and manage inventory to prevent out-of-stocks.
o Duplicate DVDs.
Weekly
o clean warehouse (sweep floors, dust work areas, clean computer monitors).
Other Duties As Assigned
o Load and Unload delivery trucks
Assist in getting items from warehouse for various departments
Scope and Complexity of Job Duties
o Use of the following machines may be required each day: computer, calculator, folder/inserter, postage meter, hand truck, pallet jack, DVD duplicator.
o Needs to possess accuracy, flexibility, good judgment and patience.
o Needs to be a self-starter, empathetic toward customers, a team player, and honest.

 

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:

 

1. QUALIFICATIONS, SCOPE, & COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES:

Education
■ High school diploma or GED required.
○ Experience
■ Two years experience in a shipping/warehouse preferred, dealing directly with customers.
Skills
■ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.
■ Able to operate a lift truck and pallet jack and docking leveler
Background
■ Member in good standing of the Seventh-day Adventist church.

 

2. INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

At IIW:
o Works closely with other Shipping/Customer Service employees, the Publishing Department, the Shipping Department, Treasury Department, and Administration.
o Occasional contact with other departments.
Outside IIW:
o UPS, FedEx, Post Office, vendors

 

3. WORKING CONDITIONS:

o Moderate to high stress due to meeting critical daily deadlines.
● Physical Requirements (percentages are approximations)
o Standing 40% of the time o Sitting and working on a computer 2%

o Reaching 18%.
o Lifting up to 75 lbs
o Pushing or pulling up to 4,500 lbs on a pallet jack
